A good face mask will not prevent you from contracting the virus, but it will prevent your contribution to the bacterial pool, and the bacterial pool plays a huge role in bringing the country back to "normal" or as close to normal as possible. So what are the types of face masks and how to choose a suitable one to fit in? Let’s check.

The following knowledge points are listed below:

Basic cloth face mask

Surgical face mask

N95 respirator

Filtering facepiece respirator

P100 respirator/gas face mask

Self-contained breathing apparatus

Full face respirator

Full length face shield

KN95 respirator

1. Basic cloth face mask

This is your standard face mask for daily use. This is also the version recommended for the public to use during the COVID-19 pandemic. You can wear this face mask to go to grocery stores, gas stations, or any other open public places.

2. Surgical face mask

Surgical masks approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration are made of a thin, disposable material. Medical professionals currently undergoing drive-thru testing for COVID-19 wear a version of this face maskthat not only covers their nose and mouth, but also their eyes, cheeks and forehead. You will also see these masks worn by doctors and respiratory therapists in hospitals.

3. N95 respirator

You will not see the N95 masks worn by the general public. This kind of face maskis very important for medical staff and medical emergency personnel. If you are not in direct contact with the patient, please do not use/buy this mask. Now that supplies are in short supply, these masks should be reserved for those who really need them

4. Filtering facepiece respirator

Like surgical masks, this type of face mask is also disposable. It is usually not used to prevent airborne diseases, but to reduce exposure to particles from wood chips, animal dander and pollen by wearing it. During the flu pandemic, people with allergies may consider using this mask.

5. P100 respirator/gas mask

P100 respirators are usually not related to health care. Painters, carpenters and anyone who might be exposed to lead, asbestos or chemicals wear it. You should not wear this face mask to prevent the spread of new coronary pneumonia.

6. Self-contained breathing apparatus

Firefighters usually wear this kind of face mask to breathe clean air in dangerous situations. There is no need to wear this face mask during the spread of COVID-19. If you do buy one, you take it away from firefighters or rescuers, they may really need it.

7. Full face respirator

A comprehensive mask, usually used in home improvement projects, may be a good choice. However, this face mask should be reserved for those who already have breathing problems or breathing problems.

8. Full length face shield

This is a fragile, plastic mask. What you see is the kind worn by welders. It covers the entire face, from the forehead to the chin, and is secured with a padded headband. In most cases, during the COVID-19 crisis, a full face mask is not ideal because it is difficult to breathe in over time.

9. KN95 respirator

KN95 masks are very similar to N95 masks. Both can capture 95% of the tiny particles in the air. The biggest difference is that the N95 face mask can capture larger particles.

The medical community generally believes that cotton face masks are the best choice to curb the spread of COVID-19. This is because cotton filters out more particles than most other materials. In addition, the cotton fiber is soft, cool and breathable, which makes it more comfortable to wear. The CDC provides the following guidelines for wearing face masks:

(1) Fit comfortably on one side of your face

(2) Use a tie or earrings to ensure safety

(3) Includes multiple layers of fabric

(4) Allow unrestricted breathing

(5) Can be washed and machine dried without damaging or changing shape
